Extended off-site session of the Presidium of the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan

An extended off-site session of the Presidium of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NEA RK) opened in Turkistan today. Participants are discussing President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s address, 'Kazakhstan in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Current Challenges and Solutions through Digital Transformation', as well as the significance of labour and working professions in light of 2025 being declared the 'Year of Working Professions'.
The meeting is chaired by NEA RK President and academician Bakytzhan Zhumagulov. Attendees include members of the Presidium, representatives of the Academy’s Southern Branch, the faculty and staff of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University, scholars, college directors from Turkistan, students, along with leaders and engineers from local industrial enterprises. Among the distinguished guests is Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki, Chairman of the Board and Rector of South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov.
The session began with an official welcome from the regional akim, Nuralkhan Kosherov, highlighting the Turkistan region's achievements in industrial and innovative development. Following this, members of the Presidium visited the Woosong University branch (Kazakhstan–Korea University) to learn more about its academic and research organisation.
The discussions during the meeting focused on the importance of building strong universities for both the economy and society, and their role in driving regional development and innovation. Environmental issues in the southern region’s industrial sector were also addressed, particularly the recycling and effective management of industrial waste.
It is worth noting that, in accordance with the decision of the Presidium of the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan dated 26 September 2025 (Resolution No. 172), Darkhan Zhumakanovich Ahmed-Zaki, Academician of the NEA RK, Chairman of the Board and Rector of the South Kazakhstan Research University named after M. Auezov, was appointed as Chairman of the Shymkent Branch.
