- Hits: 23
On June 13, 2025, Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University was honored to welcome Professor Octavian Adrian Postolache, a leading expert in information technology and telecommunications from the University of Lisbon (Portugal), on an official visit. The main purpose of his visit was to enhance international collaboration in key areas such as artificial intelligence, digital agriculture, and intelligent management systems.
Roundtable on Digital Technologies: From Precision Agriculture to Digital Linguistics
A central event of the visit was the international roundtable titled «Precision Agriculture», where innovative technologies in agriculture based on AI, big data, and digital solutions were discussed. The event brought together faculty members, master’s and PhD students from the Schools of IT, Energy, Philology, and the Faculty of Agriculture of Auezov University.
In his keynote presentation, Professor Postolache introduced cutting-edge digital solutions in the agricultural sector, including the use of smart sensors, multispectral and thermal imaging, machine learning, and IoT technologies for managing water and nutrients. He highlighted the application of drones, satellite imaging, monitoring systems, and big data analytics for building precise water stress maps and optimizing irrigation systems.
Key development areas in agricultural digitalization presented by Professor Postolache included:
Internet of Things (IoT); Agricultural Robotics
Drones; Satellite Technology; Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Big Data & Analytics; Emission Reduction Technology using Green Energy
Special attention was given to the concept of Digital Twins in agriculture - digital models enabling two-way information exchange between physical entities (such as crop fields) and their virtual representations.
An insightful continuation of the discussion was provided by Professor Madina Mansurova, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Her presentation focused on the development of a Kazakh-language digital assistant for data journalism, based on large language models (LLMs) and the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) method. The project demonstrates promising applications of AI in the humanities and media, while emphasizing the importance of linguistic sovereignty in the digital age.
