On June 17, 2025, M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University organized a working visit to the subsidiary enterprise of LIHUA GROUP –«Turkestan Cotton Agro-Industrial Complex» in Turkestan region, as part of a memorandum signed in May. The delegation included representatives of Xinjiang University (PRC), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and accompanying persons coordinating cooperation with LIHUA GROUP - a key Chinese partner in the region’s agricultural sector.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen practical cooperation in the fields of the agro-industrial complex, science, and education, as well as to provide scientific and analytical support for investment projects in the southern region of Kazakhstan.
Many prominent Chinese companies operate in the region, including Xinjiang Lihua Group (a major partner in the agricultural and textile sectors), China Energy Overseas (partner in green energy and renewables), Sin Yuan Steel, Wan Sheng Ceramics, Zhejiang Navas Industry, Central Asia Aluminium (industrial partners in mechanical engineering, metal structures, and aluminum processing), and China Tianchen Engineering Corporation, among others.
During the visit, issues of effective water usage and modern approaches to agriculture were discussed to optimize processes and improve soil usage efficiency. As a result of the visit, a memorandum of cooperation was signed in the fields of education, science, agricultural technologies, and international internships.
In general, the cooperation of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University with Chinese partners encompasses not only education and academic mobility but also a wide range of scientific research areas. The emphasis is on creating applied research platforms focused on solving specific challenges of the region's agricultural sector -from developing innovative farming methods and sustainable agricultural practices to implementing digital technologies, including automation, satellite monitoring, and agri-analytics.
Scientific projects on the adaptation of water purification, renewable energy, and biotechnology technologies to the conditions of southern Kazakhstan are also in focus. These initiatives serve as a foundation for training a new generation of scientific personnel and expanding international grant programs.
It is worth noting that at the end of May, M. Auezov University hosted a delegation from Northwest University of Political Science and Law (PRC), where legal aspects of cross-border investment and international cooperation were discussed.
As part of strengthening this cooperation, a China-Kazakhstan Center for Legal Research will be opened at the university - a new platform for joint research, legal analysis, and training of specialists in international and investment law, as well as legal support for investment projects in the southern region.
These days, the second «Central Asia – China» Summit is taking place. During the summit, President K.Tokayev declared 2026 the Year of Education and Science, thereby opening new opportunities for scientific and educational cooperation.
In this context, the work currently being carried out by M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University is expected to bear its first results as early as 2026.
