With the support of the Department of Religious Affairs of Shymkent, a significant informational and educational event was held at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University.
The meeting aimed to prevent religious extremism and terrorism among young people, raise awareness of the dangers of destructive religious movements, enhance religious literacy and strengthen spiritual resilience.
The event took place as part of the "Student Shield" project. Members of the Republican Information and Outreach Group (RIOG), who hold PhDs in theology, as well as industry experts, took part in the event, providing students with detailed insights into the nature of religious threats and their negative impact on society.
The Vice-Rector for Social and Educational Affairs, Gani Abzelbekuly, emphasised the active role of young people in society, noting that such meetings are essential for improving their religious awareness and protecting them from radical influences.
Bauyrzhan Botakaraev, a senior lecturer at Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University and a religious scholar with a PhD, gave clear explanations of the terms extremism, radicalism and terrorism. He described the traits of individuals influenced by false movements and called on society to play an active role in the deradicalisation of young people.
Medet Khalykov, Director of the "Center for the Study of Religious Issues" under the Department of Religious Affairs of the Turkistan Region, highlighted that religion carries deep historical, spiritual and cultural meaning, not just belief. He stressed the importance of obtaining religious information exclusively from official and reliable sources.
The university administration and the Department of Religious Affairs plan to organise similar informational events regularly.
