M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University held a foresight session on the future of the labour market

A two-day foresight session has commenced at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University as part of the national project "My Profession – My Future." The event is designed to identify development trends across regional industries, forecast future demand for specialists and skills, and discuss how higher and vocational education programmes can be aligned with the evolving requirements of the labour market.
The session opened with a video address from Sayasat Nurbek, the Kazakhstani Minister of Science and Higher Education. In his speech, the minister highlighted the importance of the session in preparing future professionals, and wished all participants fruitful discussions and success in their work.
Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki, the university's chairman of the board and rector, also delivered a welcome address, noting that preparing highly qualified and competitive professionals remains one of the university's key strategic objectives. He emphasised the importance of collaboration and joint action in achieving shared educational and social goals.
Olzhas Sakenov, the Head of the 'My Profession – My Future' project, joined the session online to wish participants success and announced plans to develop an Atlas of New Professions and Competencies for Shymkent based on the session's outcomes.
The foresight session brought together industry experts, Department of Education representatives, employers, university and college faculty members, and students. During the second part of the event, participants were divided into working groups to analyse regional economic development prospects and prepare recommendations on the necessary skills and professions to adapt to future changes in the labour market.
On the second day, we plan to identify emerging, transforming, declining and high-demand professions. The results of this analysis will be an important reference point for educational institutions. In particular, these findings will enable universities and colleges to adapt their academic programmes to meet the needs of the labour market and ensure that future professionals receive effective training.
This event is being held with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Centre for the Development of Higher Education and the Akimat of Shymkent, as part of the Comprehensive Plan for the Implementation of the Programme to Increase the Income of the Population until 2029, as approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
