Tanirbergen Otarbayev and the Fate of Alash Figures Persecuted in Southern Kazakhstan

M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University hosted a Republican scientific and practical conference titled "Tanirbergen Otarbaev and the Fate of Alash Figures Persecuted in the South". The conference brought together public and cultural figures, scholars from the country's leading universities, representatives of archives and museums, and descendants of the repressed, as well as students.
During the academic session, Seydekhan Alibek, a Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor, emphasised that Kazakhstani historians are currently conducting comprehensive research in this field, reinterpreting archival data and carrying out significant work aimed at restoring historical justice.
Kazbek Isa, a member of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and D. Perneshkyzy, a Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor, delivered online greetings to the participants, drawing attention to the tragic 'blank spots' in the nation's history. Khanbibi Esenkaraqyzy, a member of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, poet and laureate of the 'Alash' Literary Award, spoke about the findings of archival research and presented books published on this topic.
At the plenary session, sociologist and writer Murat Tolentayev, a descendant of T. Otarbaev, delivered a report called "The Life and Creative Legacy of T. Otarbaev". The Director General of the Sh. Ualikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, Dr Ziyabek Kabuldinov, presented the outcomes and significance of modern research on the Alash movement. Writer and "Cultural Figure of Kazakhstan" Gulzara Kablanova gave a presentation on "The Prominent Alash Figure — Sadyk Otegenov".
Domestic and international researchers also shared new scholarly findings about Alash intellectuals who suffered political persecution and periodicals published during the years of repression.
