Nature as a Teacher: Students’ Educational Visit to the Dendrological Park

Under the initiative of G.K. Altynbekova, Associate Professor in the Department of Practical Russian for Technical Specialties and PhD in Philology, students from the Higher Schools of Information Technology and Energy and Architecture, Construction and Transport went on an educational trip to the Dendrological Park — a unique natural site in the region where nature itself becomes a teacher.
Opened in 1979, the park has long been a source of pride for the region. Today, it is home to over 350,000 plant species, showcasing the richness and diversity of the natural world. Notable figures from Kazakhstan and neighbouring countries, including Dinmukhamed Kunaev and Islam Karimov, have planted trees here, and these trees now stand as living symbols of continuity and a lasting legacy for future generations. These trees stand as living symbols of continuity and a lasting legacy for future generations.
During the visit, the students were introduced to rare and protected species of trees listed in the Red Book. One of the most impressive was the oak, a tree that can remain intact in water for decades and is commonly used in shipbuilding. Another impressive species was the elm (karagach), which is notable for its durability and resistance to decay.
The park's autumn scenery left a lasting impression: golden leaves, a gentle breeze and ducks gliding across the lake all created a peaceful, harmonious atmosphere. The delicate beauty of the birches, the vivid autumn colours and the fresh air stirred a sense of love for their homeland in the students' hearts.
Such trips foster ecological awareness and nurture a respectful and caring attitude towards nature, helping young people to appreciate its beauty and importance. The visit to the dendrological park was inspiring for the participants, providing new knowledge and vivid impressions that will undoubtedly remain in their memories for a long time.
