«Security of Kazakhstan’s Southern Borders: 25 Years of Defence and Development»

An international scientific and practical seminar dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Border Service Department of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Turkistan Region took place at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. Among the participants were the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Board member, Ernar Imangaliyev; the Head of the Border Service Department for the Turkistan Region, Colonel Madiyar Zhumadilov; and current and retired border service personnel, as well as members of the university’s faculty.

In his congratulatory speech, Mr Imangaliyev emphasised the significance of the event:

'It is no coincidence that we are gathered today at Auezov University. For the past 25 years, our institution has been training highly qualified specialists in customs affairs and border security. It is our graduates who ensure the security of the southern borders of our country on a daily basis. Over this period, Kazakhstan’s Border Service has undergone significant development and transformed into a modern, technologically equipped organisation.

Meetings such as this one are important not only for industry professionals, but also for our students — the future members of the border service. I am confident that the knowledge and experience they gain here will be dedicated to safeguarding our homeland,' he stated.

Some important guests joined the event online. They were Deputy Head of the Customs Institute of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Colonel R. Khabibov; Chairman of the "Zastava Tarlanar" Association of Border Veterans, retired Major General M. Sabidoldanov; and Associate Professor of the Department of Political Science, Mr. M. Zhumabekov.

In their presentations, they addressed the history and development of the border service, strategic priorities in protecting the state border and the role of border institutions in fostering patriotism among young people.

Gani Besbaev, Vice-Rector for Social and Educational Affairs and Member of the University Board, summarised the evening by emphasising that borders are the first line of defence for any country, providing an unshakable foundation and guaranteeing independence. He thanked the defenders of the homeland for their courage and commitment to duty.
