Students study under the dual system

Since September 2025, students of the Ph-23-2dr group have been studying under the dual system (Educational program 6B01720 - Russian language and literature) at Secondary School No30 named after O. Zhandosov.
On September 26, 2025, students in the course "Modern Technologies and Methods of Teaching and Assessment" explored innovative technologies for teaching Russian, as well as active and interactive methods of teaching Russian.
During the lesson, students studied teaching methods and techniques, critical thinking development technologies, case study technologies, problem-based learning technologies, and gaming technologies. Active learning methods were considered: gaming technologies, discussions, brainstorming, case methods, problem-based learning. Students discussed how these approaches foster critical and creative thinking, foster interest in the subject, and actively engage students in Russian language learning. Practical classes focused on analyzing specific examples of method application, creating game tasks, modeling problematic situations, developing mini-cases for text analysis, and organizing group work in the classroom.
A modern lesson is aimed not only at acquiring knowledge, but also at developing the student's personality, critical thinking, communication skills, independence, and a creative approach to learning.

The modern school curriculum places emphasis on active and interactive teaching methods that engage each student in the learning process. The teacher acts not only as a bearer of knowledge, but also as an organizer of students' activities, guiding them to the independent discovery of new material. A variety of methods play a vital role: research-based lessons help students find answers independently, discussion-based lessons teach argumentation and listening to one another, game-based learning transforms the learning process into an engaging adventure, and the use of information and communication technologies makes lessons more visual and accessible. The modern lesson combines tradition and innovation, and the teacher becomes a guide who opens new paths to knowledge for students.
In the practical portion of the lesson, students from the Ph-23-2dr group, Milana Rozikova and Alina Korganova, demonstrated how a Russian language lesson in a modern school can combine traditional and innovative approaches. They conducted a lesson on "Lower Mythology" using a variety of methods: they developed interactive games to review previously covered material and a presentation explaining the new topic. This approach allowed them to maintain the lesson as the primary form of instruction, making it more dynamic and engaging, and demonstrating that a combination of explanation, reinforcement, and active discussion ensures the integrity and effectiveness of the learning process.

AI and Linguistics: How the Humanities Are Entering the Digital Age

September 2025 was a truly special and fruitful month for M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. Over the course of two action-packed weeks, the Faculty of Philology hosted significant events dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence in linguistics and linguodidactics.
From September 15 to 29, Shymkent hosted a series of open lectures, master classes, and workshops led by Anastasia Vladimirovna Kolmogorova, Doctor of Philology and Professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (St. Petersburg). She is a leading Russian specialist in applied linguistics and digital humanities research.
On September 24, the Shanghai University of Kuala Lumpur hosted the International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Artificial Intelligence in Linguistics and Lingvodidactics," bringing together scientists from Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.
The topic of the seminar and lecture course was not chosen by chance. Today, artificial intelligence is no longer just an abstract scientific concept – it is being actively integrated into everyday practices, including language teaching and learning.
AI is changing approaches to linguistic research, text analysis, teaching methods, and interaction with big data. These topics were central to Professor A.V. Kolmogorova's presentations.
YKU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Yernar Imangalievich Imangaliev, opened the seminar by emphasizing the strategic importance of artificial intelligence not only for science but for the country as a whole. In his speech, he noted: "AI is no longer just a trend. It is becoming the core of intellectual and educational processes. At our university, we are already integrating computer vision, neural network, and digital analytics technologies into education and research."
Professor A.V. Kolmogorova's engaging and informative lecture series became a true learning experience for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.
Over the course, participants received an introduction to applied and computational linguistics, from its origins to contemporary tasks and challenges. The lectures focused on research practices and real-world projects being implemented at the HSE Language Convergence Laboratory. Participants worked with the Russian National Corpus, mastering AI-powered text analysis tools. The lectures also focused on sentiment analysis, where participants compared dictionary-based, neural network-based, and LLM approaches to working with linguistic data.
Each day and each lesson combined theoretical depth and practical value. It was important not only to learn about modern tools but also to try them out in action, expanding my knowledge of how AI can be used not only as a "modern assistant" but also to understand the potential of these technologies in scientific and educational settings.
On September 24, the international seminar "AI in Linguistics and Language-Didactics" was held. The seminar served as a platform for lively dialogue between scholars from different countries, demonstrating their interest and willingness to openly discuss changes affecting not only one country but all developing countries and educational institutions.
The seminar featured presentations and discussions on the following topics:
"Language Technologies as a Key Tool for the Modern Linguist" – Anastasia Vladimirovna Kolmogorova, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Head of the Convergence Languages Laboratory at HSE-St. Petersburg, and Academic Director of the Master's Program "Language Technologies in Business and Education" (St. Petersburg, Russia).
"Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis of Museum Reviews Using

Large Language Models" – Elizaveta Romanovna Kulikova, Junior Research Fellow, Language Convergence Laboratory, HSE St. Petersburg, Russia.
"Automatic Summarization of Literary Texts" by Alisa Sergeevna Lukyanchikova, Research Intern at the Language Convergence Lab at HSE St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg, Russia).
"Creating a Biographical Data Test of 20th-Century Russian Prose Writers Using ChatGPT" by Alisa Evgenievna Urikh, Master's student in the Language Technologies in Business and Education program at HSE St. Petersburg (St. Petersburg, Russia).
"Artificial Intelligence in Computational Linguistics" by Leila Mukhamedzhanovna Musabekova, Doctor of Engineering, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Software, M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University (Shymkent, Kazakhstan).

New trends in digital humanities!

Today, September 23, we had a lecture by Doctor of Philological Sciences Anastasia Vladimirovna Kolmogorova. The topic was quite unusual: "Digital Study of Writer Style: Working with the Stylo Package." Participants not only learned the theoretical foundations of stylometry but also got a hands-on experience exploring authorial style using digital tools. What they particularly enjoyed was the accompanying visual examples and beautiful visualizations: the writer's style was literally transformed into numbers, diagrams, and graphs. It was wonderful to understand how digital technologies expand the capabilities of philologists.

The lecture atmosphere was very lively: we asked questions, discussed examples, and tried to understand the tools together with the instructor. It was clear that Anastasia Vladimirovna has a knack for explaining complex concepts in simple terms and captivating even those who had never heard of stylometry before.
For us students, this meeting was a valuable experience. We saw that philology today is not only about classic books and traditional analysis, but also about new methods that allow us to take a fresh look at writers' works.

From April 23 to April 25, 2024, 4th year students Sabina Muratbekova, Tahmina Sartaeva and Karina Paltieva took third team place in the Republican Subject Olympiad dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin. The Olympiad was held on the basis of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty and brought together philology students from different parts of the country. This Olympiad became not just a competition for the students, but a real celebration of the word and immersion in the wonderful world of Pushkin's poetry. The tasks were diverse and interesting: from the "brain ring" and testing using the interactive game service "Kahoot" to creative competitions, where each participant could show their erudition and literary talent.

Our team showed excellent results, winning the third place! "The experience of communicating with other participants and teachers was especially valuable for us. We discussed Pushkin's work, shared our research and discoveries, argued and were inspired by each other!" our students share their impressions. We would like to express our deep gratitude to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for organizing this event, which not only expanded our knowledge, but also gave us unforgettable impressions and new acquaintances. Special thanks to our SKU named after Mukhtar Auezov for this opportunity, our department and head Аdyrbekova Nazgul Aldiyarovna!

We are also infinitely grateful to our supervisor, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Maigul Shakenova for the high level of preparation for the Olympiad, for her support, faith in our strength and valuable advice that helped us to perform well at the Olympiad! Participation in this event once again convinced us that Pushkin's word is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and wisdom, which remains relevant to this day. And we are sure that the legacy of the great poet will continue to live in the hearts and minds of people for many centuries to come!
