Madina Turganbekova, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, has successfully completed a research internship at the prestigious University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, under the Bolashak International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Upon her return, she conducted a professional knowledge-sharing session with her colleagues.
During the seminar, M. Turganbekova presented effective approaches to preparing scientific articles at the international level. She shared her experience in systematizing sources using the Annotated Bibliography Matrix, identifying research gaps, and aligning manuscripts with the IMRAD standard. A research paper developed using these methodologies was submitted to a peer-reviewed international journal and an academic conference in the USA.
The lecturer proposed implementing the following formats into the educational process, which are widely used in the US academic environment to enhance student engagement:
• Debate formats: organizing discussion platforms to develop students’ critical thinking skills;
• Poster presentations (mini-conference): presenting student projects in a mini-conference format to develop public speaking skills;
• Active learning methods: Flipped Classroom and Peer Instruction technologies;
• Digital gamification: effective use of Kahoot, Quizlet, and ChatGPT (Generative AI) for academic purposes.
This knowledge-sharing event marked an important step toward enhancing the department’s scientific and methodological capacity and digitalizing the educational process in line with international standards.
