“Higher Education Institution: A Safe Zone”

A roundtable discussion titled “Higher Education Institution: A Safe Zone', was held at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. It was organised by the university’s Center for Personal Development, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan and the Council of Mothers.
The main purpose of the event was to prevent bullying, cyberbullying and stalking among students, foster a culture of safety and enhance legal awareness among young people. During the meeting:
- information was presented on Republic of Kazakhstan legislation related to bullying, cyberbullying and stalking;
- methods of providing psychological and legal support to students who have encountered such situations were explained;
- measures and strategies for preventing these threats were discussed.
The Head of the Center, Gulnar Zhanysbekova, and the Chairperson of the Shymkent City Council of Mothers, Gulzhan Sugirbayeva, delivered opening addresses, emphasising the important role of this initiative in the nurturing of the younger generation.
Within the framework of the discussion, university scholars and doctoral students presented reports on the following topics: “Student Safety from Bullying and Stalking”, “Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Bullying and Cyberbullying”, “Respect in the Kazakh Family”, “Tolerant Relations in Kazakhstan’s Multiethnic Society”, and “Bullying in Sports and its Prevention”.
Following the event, participants put forward a number of proposals which will be further refined and incorporated into the university's daily practice.
