Outstanding world economist and Nobel Prize laureate in Economics Michael Spence opened the first of 15 lectures of the II Central Asia Nobel Fest for Kazakh and Central Asian experts, students and professors at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University.
The lecture was held and gave a start to the events of the Month of science and technology in the framework of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was moderated by the Chairman of the Inclusive Development Foundation M. Kurbenov.
The Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Internationalization of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan State University Aigul Iskakova made a welcoming speech.
The conversation with the scientist was moderated by the well-known French economist, Director General of the Bretton Woods Committee for the renewal, Mr. Marc Uzan.
The preamble of the laureate's lecture is the need to transform the economies of developing countries and digitalize business as part of the global economic process. In his speech, he proposed the possibility of applying competitive labor in labor-intensive processes and robotization of production facilities.
During the discussion "Emerging Markets and Kazakhstan in the post-pandemic period", Dr. Spence spoke about global economic trends in the post-pandemic world and how they will affect Kazakhstan and emerging markets.
Michael Spence noted that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected almost all sectors of the world's economy and that some sectors are experiencing a crisis, and some sectors of the economy, on the contrary, have found themselves in favorable conditions for growth.
As for the economy of Kazakhstan, Mr. Spence focused on the direction of stable income in the energy sector and the provision of comprehensive broad support to business.
In the final part, the experts were able to discuss with the laureate their questions about the economy of Kazakhstan and the countries of Central Asia. The discussion with the Nobel Prize laureate was attended by heads, faculty and students of universities, representatives of ministries, well-known economists and experts of the region, as well as online platforms Ekonomist.kz. Relevant questions were asked, which were discussed with interest by the participants of the online meeting.
