A new chapter in regional science

Today, M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University hosted a key meeting focusing on the future of science and higher education. The event brought together Olzhas Kuspekov, a member of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Sayasat Nurbek, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Arman Sabitov, the Deputy Akim of Shymkent; and Darkhan Akhmed-Zaki, the Chairman of the Board and Rector of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. Also in attendance were the rectors of Shymkent universities and other prominent national scholars.

During the meeting, the Minister of Science and Higher Education delivered a keynote address titled 'Prospects for the Development of Science and the Higher Education System in Shymkent'.

"I am pleased to welcome you all here today in Shymkent, a city that is demonstrating a systematic approach to integrating science, education and regional governance. Today’s meeting is dedicated to discussing the future of higher education and science in this strategically vital region. Shymkent has significant educational potential: the city is home to nine higher education institutions, accounting for 7.4 per cent of all universities in the republic. The student body stands at approximately 98.5 thousand students — 13.6 per cent of the nation's total — while the teaching staff exceeds 4.4 thousand faculty members, accounting for 9.6 per cent nationwide. In recent years, we have seen steady, positive growth, with student enrolment increasing by 15.5 percent over the past three years. Furthermore, Shymkent is home to 3,640 international students, highlighting the growing export of our educational services," said Sayasat Nurbek.

Darkhan Akhmed-Zaki, Rector of Auezov University, presented a report  'AI for Kazakhstan: Industry 5.0 Solutions' and presented university’s ongoing digital transformation projects.
