Mandatory grant
Working off a grant in Kazakhstan is an obligation for university graduates to work for 3 years (less often 2 or proportionally) in their specialty in order to reimburse the state for free tuition, working in organizations of any form of ownership (except for rural quotas and specific cases where there are restrictions), while there are exceptions (disability, children, further education) and the possibility to refund the money in case of refusal.
Basic rules of working out:
Term: 3 years (standard), proportionate (for transfer, deduction / restoration).
Place of work:
Pedagogical and medical: in educational or healthcare organizations (regardless of the form of ownership).
Other specialties: in organizations of any form of ownership (starting in 2021).
Rural quota: in villages (according to the list).
Doctoral studies (PhD/profile): in government agencies, universities, scientific organizations, niches, and colleges.
When the work is calculated proportionally:
Transfer from paid to grant or vice versa.
Deduction with subsequent reinstatement (only the period of study under the grant is worked out).
Exceptions (exemption):
Pregnancy, having children under 3 years old.
Disability groups 1-2.
Inability to find employment for reasons beyond their control (for example, there are no vacancies where the spouse lives).
Admission to the Master's/doctoral/residency program for a grant.
What happens if you don't work out:
You need to reimburse the budget spent on training in proportion to the unworked period.
Important:
Read the contract carefully upon admission.
If you do not agree, you can cancel the grant before starting your studies by writing an application.
