On October 16, 2026, Mr. Su Fangqiu, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Almaty, paid an official visit to M. Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University. The meeting focused on the results of cooperation with Chinese universities, the development of joint educational programs, academic mobility, and the training of qualified professionals for enterprises with Chinese participation.
The visit followed the Consul General’s meeting with the Head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and Industrial-Innovative Development of Shymkent City, during which issues of trade, economic, and investment cooperation with China were discussed.
Auezov University began actively expanding its cooperation with Chinese universities in 2025 and has already achieved tangible results within a relatively short period. The University has significantly broadened its network of partners, concluded new agreements, and initiated joint educational and research projects.
Today, Auezov University maintains active cooperation with leading Chinese higher education institutions, including Xi’an Jiaotong University, North China Electric Power University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Xi’an Polytechnic University, Harbin Engineering University, Xinjiang University, Yili Normal University, and other institutions. Research collaboration is also being developed with the National University Science and Technology Park of Fudan University.
One of the key achievements has been the launch of a dual-degree program in Electrical Power Engineering in partnership with North China Electric Power University. The program aims to train internationally competitive engineering professionals by integrating advanced educational technologies and the expertise of the Chinese partner university.
Significant progress has also been made in academic mobility. During the spring semester of 2026, 23 students were sent to Chinese universities with financial support from Auezov University. In the autumn semester, another 40 students are studying at Yili Normal University, while six students are pursuing their studies at Northwest University of Political Science and Law.
Incoming academic mobility has also expanded. In the spring semester of 2026, Auezov University welcomed 22 students from China, while the autumn semester saw the enrollment of a further 37 Chinese students. These developments demonstrate the increasingly sustainable and reciprocal nature of academic cooperation between the two countries.
Another major milestone was the opening of the Kazakhstan-China Belt and Road Business Environment Services Development Center in May 2026, established in cooperation with Northwest University of Political Science and Law and the Ontustik Special Economic Zone. A partner center has also been established in Xi’an. Its activities focus on promoting joint research, professional training, expert and legal support for business initiatives, and stronger cooperation between universities and the business communities of both countries.
During the meeting, Consul General Mr. Su Fangqiu highly commended the University’s achievements and its proactive approach to strengthening cooperation with China.
He placed particular emphasis on graduate employment opportunities, noting that Chinese companies operating in Kazakhstan are interested in recruiting qualified professionals with Chinese language proficiency. According to the Consul General, combining professional qualifications with language skills enhances young people’s competitiveness in the labor market and meets the growing demands of Kazakhstan-China economic cooperation.
In this context, the participants discussed opportunities to expand Chinese language education, strengthen practice-oriented training, and establish direct partnerships between the University and Chinese enterprises.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their mutual interest in further strengthening academic, scientific, and business cooperation, including the implementation of new joint educational programs, the expansion of student exchanges, and the training of qualified professionals to meet the economic needs of both countries.
