- Hits: 7
As part of the “April - Month of Science” initiative, a training seminar titled “Working with the Open Encyclopedia Wikipedia” was held on April 8 at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, organized by the Department of Publication Activity.
The seminar featured two key sessions: an introduction to account registration and management, and practical training on content editing and making contributions to articles.
The event brought together members of the university’s academic staff, who developed essential skills and received answers to a range of practical questions. A significant contribution to the organization of the seminar was made by active Wikipedia contributor Muzaffar Turgunov.
The Kazakh-language edition of Wikipedia, launched in 2002, has seen steady and rapid growth in recent years, particularly between 2010 and 2013 with support from both the government and volunteer community. The number of articles is now approaching 250,000, making it one of the largest sections among Turkic-language Wikipedias.
Despite this progress, there is still considerable room for further development. Both organizers and participants expressed support for continuing such initiatives on a regular basis, aimed at enriching the quality of Kazakh-language content in the open online encyclopedia.
