Winter School 2025
Head of the Department of "General History and Museum Studies"
Candidate of Technical Sciences Otarbayeva G.K.
LIBRARY SCIENCE ("round table")
Those present tried to reveal the problems of the industry, get answers to questions that worry specialists, openly and honestly talk about all the difficulties in the work. After all, the Department of General History and Museum Affairs of the Faculty of History and Pedagogical Studies of Auezov University also trains specialists in the educational program 6B03210 - "Library Science".
The significance of the problems raised revolved around the fundamental thesis about the need to raise the prestige of the status of librarians. Because a modern librarian is only one fifth of a librarian in the old sense. Today, 80 percent of the activities of a modern librarian are spent working with computer programs and IT technologies. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of specialists who have all the necessary skills. And this is despite the fact that there is plenty of equipment, the material and technical base is complete. With the continuing shortage of applicants choosing this specialty as their profession, it is the lack of specialists in this profile that seems to be the most important challenge and threat.
Undoubtedly, the development of society depends on the development of education and culture, scientific and technological progress. And libraries are an integral part of these processes. After all, "Power is in knowledge, knowledge is in books, and books are in the library"! In addition, the 21st century is the era of information technology. He who owns information owns the world!
Therefore, a modern librarian is a universal specialist; he searches, finds, processes, promotes and distributes information according to standards. Therefore, the work of a librarian requires knowledge of modern technologies, deep knowledge in various related industries. This is the underlying reason why the issue of training new specialists who can work with large amounts of information data is relevant today.
During the discussion, foreign guests told how library science is organized in their countries and universities. Thus, Professor A. Khabibullaev pointed out that the number of students at just one campus of Indiana University, where the library he works in is located, is twice as large as the number of students at Auezov University. Accordingly, their book collection is several times larger.
The round table was attended by the Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Philological Sciences K.M. Urazbaev, Head of the Department, Candidate of Historical Sciences G.K. Otaralieva, specially invited Deputy Director of the Scientific Library of the South Ukrainian State Pedagogical Institute R.S. Tukenova, leading specialist of the department, Associate Professor S.T. Musayeva. Young specialists also took part in the debates - Master, Senior Lecturer D.E. Seytimbetova and others.
From the fraternal Turkish Republic, a representative of the Kutahya Dumlupinar University was present - Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Vezhihi Sefa Fuat Hekimoglu. From the American side - Professor of the Indiana University (Bloomington, USA), Candidate of Philological Sciences, Librarian-Bibliographer, Arabist, Head of the Middle Eastern, Islamic and Central Eurasian Collection of the Indiana University Library, Akram Khabibullaev (currently the Fulbright Program operates in 155 countries around the world). It is worth noting that within the walls of Auezov University, Professor A. Khabibullaev gave lectures and seminars to students of the educational program 6B03210 - "Library Science" offline using information and communication technologies, among which the scientific research on the topic "Modern English-language online resources for historical research" was of particular interest to the audience. The professor gave scientific consultations and presented a master class for young researchers and applicants of the department.
Challenge "National Costume Ceremonies"
On December 26, 2024, a challenge dedicated to the "National Costume Ceremonies" was held at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University. The challenge was also attended by the faculty of the Department of General History and Museology. The purpose of this event is to demonstrate the importance of national clothing, introduce its history and popularize it among young people. A brief overview of that historical period with the documentary film Kazakhstan in the Years of the Great Patriotic War, which focuses on the heroes of the Soviet Union who fought and died heroically in Kazakhstan in 1941-45,
All for VICTORY, for the front!
Both the soldier with a weapon in his hand, the mother who slept four nights in the rear, and the child who shared a piece of bread - everyone had one goal in their hearts:
Victory! Freedom! Homeland!
This was not just a war, it was a front of honor, spirit, and morality.
Thousands of heroes from the Kazakh steppes:
"May my country be safe" and rushed forward!
We live on their legacy.
So, don't forget, don't forget, be proud!

THE INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

Contribution of "AUEZOV University" to the development of international relations. Open conversation
In our review today, we want to talk about the projects that are being implemented within the walls of the university with Turkish partners and colleagues from the USA, show one direction, and reveal one problem. The Department of General History and Museum Affairs of the Faculty of History and Pedagogy of Auezov University trains specialists in the following educational programs:
• 6B03210 - Library Science;
• 6B01610 - History (pedagogical direction);
• 6B02220 - History (humanitarian direction);
• 6B01561-"History-Geography". It is known that access to technology, exposure to global experience and advanced work methods in their fields of activity are of great importance for the formation of the necessary competencies in young specialists. The problem of “Personnel decide everything!” will be solved only by the country that can prepare specialists who meet the requirements of the time, and will be successful in the future. The problems of training and education of personnel are coming to the forefront of geopolitics and global competition.
In accordance with the demands of the era, the management of the university and department are trying not only to establish partnerships with colleagues from abroad, but also to put the relationship on a systemic basis. For example, to achieve a scientific exchange of experience between universities of the countries. For this purpose, the parties invite specialists to give lectures, conduct scientific seminars and consultations for students. In the fraternal Republic of Turkey, for the Department of Historians and Bibliographers, this is Kutahya Dumlupınar University and the library of Indiana University (Bloomington, USA).
Since mid-November 2022, PhD in History, Associate Professor Vejihi Sefa Fuat Hekimoğlu has been giving lectures. Visiting scientists, in turn, are also interested in issues close to the topics of their scientific research. For Mr. Vezhiha Sefa Fuat Hekimoglu, these are the fates and legacy of the Turkic intelligentsia, who fell into the millstones of the political systems of the 20th century. The tragedy of the representatives of the "Alash" movement interests him especially.
Also, since the beginning of November, as part of the international Fulbright program, PhD, professor of Indiana University (Bloomington, USA), candidate of philological sciences, librarian-bibliographer, Arabist, head of the Middle Eastern, Islamic and Central Eurasian Fund of the Indiana University Library, Akram Khabibullaev has been giving lectures to students and graduate students.
A little about the educational grants program, founded in 1946. The "ticket to life" for the program to strengthen cultural and academic ties was given by former Senator from Arkansas James William Fulbright. The educational grants program is funded by the US State Department. Currently, the Fulbright Program operates in 155 countries around the world.
Within the walls of "Auezov University" Professor Khabibullaev A. in offline mode using information and communication technologies gave lectures and seminars for students of the educational program 6B03210 - "Library Science" on the topics:
- "Libraries and library science in the USA";
- "Library education in the USA";
- "On the degree of Master of Library Science";
- "Problems of professional bibliographic education at the present stage";
- "Modern methods of organizing a reference and information service";
- "Bibliographic instruction and improving the information literacy of students";
- "The main directions of improving bibliographic activities at the present stage";
- "Modern electronic databases for natural and humanitarian-social sciences" and others.
The audience was particularly interested in the scientific research of Professor A. Khabibulaev on the topic: "Modern English-language online resources for historical research". The professor gave scientific consultations and presented a master class for young researchers and applicants of the department.
The teaching staff of the faculty and department organized a "round table" with the guests on the topic: "Library of the 21st century", which was attended by 1-3 year students of academic groups TP 20-14k, TP 21-14k, TP 22-14k.
Now we will briefly cover the progress of the "round table" and move on to the main core of our story - covering the problems of the industry.
Deputy Director of the Scientific Library of the South Kazakhstan State Pedagogical Institute Tukenova R.S.: The development of society depends on the development of education and culture, scientific and technological progress. And libraries are an integral part of these processes. Power is in knowledge, knowledge is in books, and books are in the library!
Therefore, the requirements for a modern specialist - a librarian are higher. The 21st century is the era of information technology. Owns the world that owns information! A librarian is a universal specialist who searches, finds, processes, promotes and distributes information according to standards, requires knowledge of modern technologies, deep knowledge. Today, the issue of training specialists is very relevant, in accordance with which the format of library services has completely changed. We place great hopes on the Department of General History and Museum Affairs, which trains specialists for the library of the future.
Associate Professor of the Department Musayeva S.T. focused on the content of the educational program "Library Science" and proposed changing its concept in order to reorient it to the training of a specialist ready to work with various information resources of modern Kazakhstani society. Change the name of the specialty "Library Science" to "Library and Information Activities" in accordance with the main positions of the National Classifier of Occupations of Workers, Positions of Employees and Wage Grades.
Seitimbetova D.E., Master, Senior Lecturer informed the participants of the round table about the update of the educational program "Library Science" in the current academic year, taking into account all the changes occurring in the library institutions of the country. Today, there is a training of library personnel of a new formation, ensuring the cognitive and creative activities of the serviced community, providing the necessary space, hardware and software tools and access to information sources for public use.
Head of the Department of General History and Museum Affairs Otarbaeva G.K. revealed the importance of professional training of library personnel at the present stage, when state programs "Reading Nation" have been adopted on instilling a high culture of reading, developing reading literacy skills and supporting children's and adolescent reading, as well as training personnel in the field of library, pedagogical and information activities based on digital technologies. Dean of the Faculty of History and Pedagogy, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor Urazbaev K.M. called for close cooperation of foreign scientists to participate in grant programs, international projects, international scientific research within the framework of scientific research of the department and the university.
