Auezov University scientists test comprehensive technologies for the reprocessing of polymetallic raw materials
- Hits: 16
Scientists at Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan Research University have conducted pilot-industrial tests on the comprehensive processing of natural and technogenic polymetallic raw materials. The research was carried out in collaboration with specialists from the National Center for the Comprehensive Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan, using the pilot-industrial facility of the Z. Abishev Chemical and Metallurgical Institute in Karaganda.
The research team included V. M. Shevko, Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor of the Department of Silicate Technologies and Metallurgy doctoral students I. Sinelnikov and A. Badykova and specialists from the Research Laboratory of Advanced Metallurgical Technologies.
Electric smelting of the initial sulphide lead-zinc ore from the Shalkiya deposit in an ore-thermal furnace yielded various grades of ferrosilicon and a bulk concentrate containing zinc and lead.
This work continues the research conducted in 2023-2025 under a contractual agreement with the National Center for the Comprehensive Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The test results will help increase the level of comprehensive utilization of the primary sulphide ore from the Shalkiya deposit without preliminary beneficiation.
In addition staff of the Research Laboratory of Advanced Metallurgical Technologies conducted pilot-industrial tests on the electric smelting of cake obtained through the autoclave leaching of vanadium-bearing quartzites from the Balasauskandyk deposit with sulphuric acid, together with coal beneficiation waste from the Shubarkol deposit. The tests resulted in the production of FeSi45-grade ferrosilicon.
The research findings are aimed at expanding the raw material base of the metallurgical industry and improving the economic efficiency and competitiveness of commercial product manufacturing from ore from the Shalkiya deposit and quartzites from the Balasauskandyk deposit.
