Abai and Modern Youth: Educational Event Held to Mark Abai’s 180th Anniversary

Our university recently hosted a meaningful educational event dedicated to the 180^(th) anniversary of Abai Kunanbayev, a great thinker, philosopher and spiritual pillar of Kazakh culture. The guest speaker was Azimkhan Isabek, the official representative of South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov. He is also the press secretary to the rector, an Abai scholar, a specialist at the Mukhtar Studies Research Centre and a graduate of the Faculty of Philology.
The meeting, titled "Abai and Modern Youth", was organised with the support of senior lecturers from the Department of Foreign Languages for Humanities at the Faculty of Philology: Suyuberdiyeva A.A., Emkulova Z.A., Morozova V.Yu., Nurymbetova A.A., Ormakhanova G.S., Berdauletova Sh.Zh., Shakiyeva A.M., Zhanysbayeva A.P., Zholdassova M.A., Smatova A.E., Kalibekova L.A., and Imangaliyeva D.B.
Azimkhan Isabek is a young Abai scholar who, for the first time in Kazakh literary studies, examined Abai’s 38 Words of Edification as an independent philosophical concept, introducing them into the academic discourse. In his works, “Kitap Tasdiq” and “Abai: Kitap Tasdiq, he provides a profound and original analysis of Abai’s legacy. As part of the celebrations for Abai Kunanbayev’s 180th anniversary, Azimkhan Isabek received the “Best Abai Scholar” nomination in 2025, alongside other outstanding figures.
During the event, based on his work 'Kitap Tasdiq', Azimkhan Isabek elaborated on the path of ancestors, responsibility to people and science, and issues related to the spiritual development of youth. He also provided new insights into Murseit Bikeuly and his descendants, who made an invaluable contribution to preserving and promoting Abai’s heritage.
To conclude the event, faculty members recited Abai’s poems from memory, creating a profound spiritual atmosphere. Meanwhile, active students performed excerpts from Abai’s works on the kobyz, further emphasising the significance of the evening.
