General information
The history of the department dates back to 1961, when the "Electrical Technics" chair at the Kazakh Chemical Technology Institute was established. The Chair was a general education chair and taught the subject of "Electrical Technics" to students of technological specialities.
In 1994, documents were prepared and the specialisation "Electric drive and automation of technological complexes" was opened. In the same year, the department recruited students for the specialisation "Electric Drive and Automation of Technological Complexes". Associate Professor V.U. Smogorzhevsky was appointed head of the Chair. The Chair was a general education chair and taught the subject of "Electrical Technics" to students of technological specialities
In 1979 Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ilyasov R.M. was appointed head of the chair and he was at the head of the chair till 1990.
In 2006, by the decision of the Council of M.Auezov SKSU, the Chair of " Electroenergetics" was established. The chair trained students and master's students in "Electroenergetics" in a number of specializations. The teaching staff of the chair was engaged in scientific research in the field of power converter technology, electric drive, electrical technologies. Head of the chair is Associate Professor A.F. Romanenko.
The teaching staff of the chair have been involved in research in the field of power converter technology for electrical drives and electrical engineering.
From its first graduation in 1999 to the present, the department has trained more than 1,000 highly qualified energy specialists.
In 2010 the chair was renamed by the rector's order. The new name of the department "Energetics and renewable energy systems" is related to the opening of another specialty - "Heat Рower Еngineering", as well as the development of the scientific direction of non-traditional and renewable energy. In the 2013-2014 academic year, the first bachelor's degree in "5B071700 Heat Рower Еngineering" was graduated.
In speciality 5B071800 - Electroenergetics, students were trained in 3 (three) educational training paths:
- Electric drive and automation of technological complexes ;
- Electric Power Supply ;
- Аlternative and renewable energy sources.
In order to improve the efficiency of the development of educational programmes, in 2019 the training areas were allocated:
- EP 6B077150 - "Electroenergetics";
- EP 6B07151 - "Electric Power Supply".
- EP 6B07140 - "Heat Рower Еngineering".
Educational programmes are aimed at the implementation of the State Programme "Digital Kazakhstan".
The main activities of the department correspond to the conduct of the main positions and results of the educational programmes, which are the main flagship of research and teaching disciplines in the field of Electrical Power Engineering, Power Supply Systems and Thermal Power Engineering.

The department currently has 2 Professors, 1 Doctor of Engineering Sciences , 4 Candidates of Engineering Sciences , 2 Doctors of PhDs and 4 Masters of Engineering Sciences.


The research activities of the lecturers of the department in 2020 were carried out within the framework of the development of the leading research topics of the department:
1.SRW No. B-16-04-01 "Development and study of electrical and electromechanical systems for renewable energy sources".
On Stage 5 "Processing of research results, determination of technical and economic indicators and efficiency of developed systems".
2.SRW No.B-16-04-02 "Study of fluid flow in elements of heat and mass transfer apparatus". For this state budget work two stages were investigated.
Step 4: "Development of MatCad computational programme for calculation of velocity distribution, free path length of liquid particles across the channel cross section. Determination of scope of generalised formula".
No research on topical areas funded by the Ministry and other governmental bodies, international foundations and organisations has been carried out in the department.
The most significant results of the department's research are the collections of articles based on the results of scientific conferences, which raise important, topical issues.
During the academic year 2020-2021 the teaching staff of the chair prepared and published 76 publications: In the journals with the impact factor (0,100) - 6, in the Republican journals (HAC) - 5, in other journals 1;, in the proceedings of the VII International Conference "Industrial Technologies and Engineering "ICITE - 2020 - 17,

Students of OP annually take part in the International engineering championship "CASE-IN", in Moscow in the fields of training 6B07150 - " Electroenergetics ", 6B07151 - "Electric power supply".
Students of the ENES department participate annually in the national subject Olympiad at higher education institutions in Kazakhstan.
In 2017, Abdullayev Agali, a student of IP-15-4r, took 4th place in the national annual subject Olympiad in the discipline "Theoretical Fundamentals of Electrical Engineerig".
Beksultan Tursynbaev, a student of group IP-18-2k Beksultan took the 2nd place in the national annual subject Olympiad in the discipline "Theoretical foundations of heat engineering" in 2019.
The department holds an annual student research conference. The results of the conference are published on the university website.

On the eve of the holiday on March 8, 03.6.2025 at 9:35 a.m. at the Department of Energy and non-traditional energy systems, curator Gulmira Edilovna Sakhmetova held an open curatorial hour with students of the 1st year of the IP-24-9k group, on the theme: "March 8 is International Women's Day."During the event, poems dedicated to female teachers of the department were read, excerpts from films about women were shown, a poem was read, a quiz was held, and at the end of the event, the teachers were offered the game "get out of the maze."The curatorial hour ended with congratulations, and the students presented tulips, spring flowers, to the female teachers of the EfNES department.





Today 06.03.25 g in honour of the International Women's Day holiday 8 March on the initiative of the curator of the group Kulmakhanova I. K. in the group IP-24-4k1 was held an open curatorial hour on the theme ‘Woman - the Sun of Life! Our university hosted the 5th International Forum of Innovative Educators on the topic “Modern Education: Challenges, Trends, and Strategies,” in which faculty members participated and won prizes.
Bayan Tastanbekova, a lecturer of the “Information and Communication Technologies” department at the Higher School of Information Technologies and Energy and a Master’s degree holder, delivered a lecture for students on the topic “Working with ChatGPT, Undetectable.ai, Sytea, ChatPdf, Duolingo, Gamma Applications Using AI-based Software.”
Open lectures were also presented by senior lecturer Sandugash Mombekova on the topic “Inclusive Intelligence: Creating a Responsible Future for AI,” associate professor of the “Energy and Non-traditional Energy Systems” department, PhD Gulmira Sakhmetova on “Characteristics of Industrial Electricity Consumers,” and a master class by senior lecturer of the “Computer Engineering and Software” department, Master's degree holder Aigerim Seitkhanova on “Artificial Intelligence – Using Avatars in the Educational Process: Opportunities and Prospects.”

On October 8, 2024 at 13:00, a guest lecture was held at Auezov University on the topic: “Application of new technologies in the construction of nuclear power plants”.
The speaker of the guest lecture was PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Technical Physics and Thermal Power Engineering of the NJSC Shakarim University of Semey, Head of the Department for Development and Testing of Reactor Devices of the Institute of Atomic Energy Branch of the RSE National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Erolovich Mukhamedov.
Speaker Nurzhan Erolovich began his speech by introducing the research base of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its activities in the field of nuclear energy safety.
During the speaker's speech, the importance of the safety of modern nuclear energy technologies, voiced with existing projects in the field of nuclear energy: the CORMIT project (interaction of the A3 melt with heat-resistant materials of the protective coating of the sub-reactor melt trap), the Fukushima Debris project (modeling and studying the properties of frozen fragments of the A3 melt of nuclear power plant reactors), the EAGLE-3 project (studies of simulator cooling processes molten fuel in a sodium pool), the SAIGA project (studying the behavior of the ASTRID reactor fuel assembly).
The speaker also voiced the safety of modern nuclear energy technologies.
The guest lecture was attended by the university's teaching staff, scientists, doctoral students, master's students and students in the amount of 125 people.

Participation of students in the meeting of young scientists
The “QazScience: Rally of Young Scientists” rally was held in Shymkent, organized by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. As part of the program, students of group IP-21-4k5 and IP-21-4tk, m.t.s., senior teacher Apsemetova A.T. the department of " Energetics and Renewable energy systems" took part in the sectional meeting "ABOUT EARTH, SPACE AND COMMUNICATIONS Science and energy: a look into the future", which was held at the leading Kazakhstan transformer plant "Asia Trafo".
The conference speakers, leading engineers of Asia Trafo LLP, spoke about existing problems, shared and exchanged ideas, experience and research in the field of electrical engineering.

Meeting of faculty members of the Department of Energy and RES with the leading employees of PetroKazakhstan Oil Products LLP
On January 23 from 13.30 to 17.00 hours a meeting of the department teachers with the management of the enterprise and leading engineers of the enterprise "PKOP" LLP was held.
This event was held on the territory of the enterprise, during which the teachers of the department were shown the electrical equipment of a modern digital substation.

The Department cooperates with the Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology (Republic of Uzbekistan) and the Almaty University of Energy and Communication through cooperation agreements on internships, academic mobility and professional development of faculty, undergraduates and students.
An agreement is being implemented on the joint training of masters in the "Electroenergetics" educational programme within the framework of cooperation between the Shanghai Organisation University and the National Research University MPEI (Moscow, Russia).
Two Masters students were trained in this programme: Ergeshov A. and Shyngizov N.
In the academic year 2021-2022, a joint educational programme has also been developed and approved with NRU MPEI in the following fields of study: 13.04.02 Renewable Energy Installations and 7M07109 Integrated Smart Energy Systems.
This year an international double-diploma educational programme has been approved together with Samara State Technical University in the following fields of study: 13.04.01 - Heat power engineering and thermal engineering ("Digital modelling of smart energy systems and services") and 7M071 - Engineering and engineering business (7M07110 - "Innovative technologies in electric power engineering").
The EaRES department, together with national and foreign advanced universities, holds the winter school "Innovative Solutions in Modern Energy", where scientists in the field of electricity and thermal energy discuss current problems and prospects for the development of the industry.
The main objective of the winter school is to introduce the students to innovative scientific achievements in the field of traditional and unconventional energy sources. The students will get acquainted with modern trends in the development of the energy industry, with new scientific developments in the field of smart and digital energy technologies.
The Winter School is implemented in the following areas: smart technologies for heat and power supply to consumers based on traditional and alternative energy sources; technologies for creating smart power systems, energy saving technologies in energy production and transmission, as well as in the transport sector.
Students study in various countries through academic mobility. In 2019 students of group IP-18-4tk, Kanseit Egemberd and Tungyshbai Isamaddin studied at Istanbul University of Culture (Turkey). Malikkyzy Ainel studied at Lublin Polytechnic University (Poland).

The curricula of the education programme 6B07150 - Electroenergetics and 6B07151 - Electric Power Supply take into account the needs of the energy sector employers in the region.
Under the educational program 6B07150 - "Electroenergetics", 6B07151 - "Electric Power Supply " and 6B07140 - "Heat power engineering" with the purpose of instilling practical and industrial skills among students operates Training and research industrial complex on the bases of LLP "Electroapparat" and State Enterprise "KuatzhyluOrtalyk-3".
With the aim of realization of dual education at SKU named after M. Auezov on direction of bachelor training 5B071800-Electroenergetics and OP 6B07150-Electroenergetics the lessons at the enterprise "AsiaTrafo", and also on direction of bachelor training on OP 6B07151 - Electric Power Supply the contract about joint dual training with "PetroKazakhstan Oil Products" LLP is signed.

On December 12, 2023, PhD, Associate Professor of the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (Sofia, Bulgaria) D.P.Karaivanov held a seminar with young scientists of the Higher School of Information Technology and Energy on the topic: "Some features and problems in the preparation and publication of articles in journals with impact factor" in the 504 auditorium of the building.
During the seminar, Professor D.P.Karaivanov showed a presentation on the topic of the seminar and focused the attention of young scientists on some nuances when writing scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals with an impact factor (Scopus, Thomson Reuters-Clarivate), highlighted the main points affecting the increase in the Hirsch index.
Young scientists are provided with a sufficient amount of data on the topic of the seminar, meeting modern trends and requirements of science. This topic is modern, presented in an up-to-date interpretation, touching on the main issues in the field of writing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Young scientists showed interest in the procedure for publishing articles in foreign journals; scientists who listened to the material of the professor's presentation at such a high level showed high interest in the topic of the seminar, contributing to the formation of the necessary knowledge for the scientific activities of the department and the university.
