The "Council of Mothers" organised a round table titled "Gambling – A Social Disease of the 21st Century" at M. Auezov SKU

The event focused on preventing gambling and other addictions among young people, enhancing the role of mothers in instilling core values of responsibility through educational dialogue, and encouraging students to make informed choices and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Gulnar Zhanysbekova, Chairwoman of the University's "Council of Mothers", opened the meeting by emphasising that young people represent the country's future, and by highlighting the importance of collective action in tackling this growing social issue.

The roundtable was attended by faculty members from the university and active representatives from Shymkent city, including Gulzhan Sugirbayeva, Chairwoman of the Shymkent City "Council of Mothers" and Professor; leadership from A. Ismailov Professional College; and specialists from other fields.

During the event, political scientists and law enforcement representatives gave presentations on the negative impact of ludomania on society and how to prevent it. Additionally, experienced psychologists ran specialised training sessions for students, explaining the psychological causes of addiction and how to overcome it.

As part of the programme, university students and members of the 'Assembly Youth' presented theatrical performances entitled 'Easy Money – Heavy Fate', 'Ludomania and Youth', and 'An Addicted Person', which prompted deep reflection among the audience.

At the end of the meeting, the organisers and participants exchanged views on youth education and pressing social issues, offering concrete recommendations for the prevention of gambling addiction and rehabilitation.
