Students of M.Auezov South Kazakhstan University moved into a modern dormitory at the start of the new academic year. The opening ceremony was attended by university faculty, public figures, media representatives, and students. Veteran Zhenisbay Sultanov and the chairman of the Shymkent City Veterans Council, Kenzhekhan Tolebayev, congratulated the younger generation on the opening of the student residence and ceremonially cut the ribbon of the new building.
The President of the country stated, "The next important issue is providing students with dormitories. To solve this problem, it is necessary to actively implement a public-private partnership approach between higher educational institutions and construction companies." Auezov University is actively working in this direction. Specifically, as part of the state program developed under the President’s instructions, a tripartite agreement was signed on March 5, 2021, between the Ministry of Education and Science, the Financial Center JSC, and the company "SUNRISE CY." As a result of this agreement, a new student dormitory was opened, designed to accommodate 550 students.
The unique thing about this dormitory is its hotel-like format: each room houses 2-3 students. Every room is equipped with household appliances, furniture, and has a separate bathroom and toilet. The dormitory also provides study halls, recreation areas, a cinema, and other essential amenities. A key advantage is that the dormitory is located in close proximity to the university. It is intended not only for students but also for master’s and doctoral candidates.
As the acting chairman of the board, Rector Kairat Nurmanbetov, said: "The new dormitory is built according to a hotel model. In line with modern requirements, each room is equipped with a private bathroom. Additionally, special furniture and air conditioners have been provided for students. Our students will be able to spend their free time effectively in the new student residence, as all necessary conditions have been created. Another advantage is that the dormitory is only 100 meters away from the university, making it very convenient for attending classes. This academic year, we received 2,565 applications from students, and all of them have been provided with dormitory accommodations. We do not face any problems with student housing."
According to the partner company’s director, Beksultan Kuanyshbekuly, 17 billion tenge was allocated for the project. "All necessary conditions for students have been created in the six- and four-story dormitories. Each floor is equipped with modern kitchens and laundry facilities," Beksultan Kuanyshbekuly noted.
It is worth mentioning that Auezov University has eight student dormitories, and the new student residence has become the fourth dormitory commissioned under the public-private partnership framework.
