Department history

The department "Technology of Textile and Light Industry" was organised in 2006. Since 2010 the department was renamed "Technology and Design of Textile Materials". Currently the department is a part of the Higher School of "Textile and Food Engineering" of SKU named after M. Auezov. The department actively trains highly qualified specialists in educational programmes 6B07260 - "Technology and design of textile materials", 6B07261 - "Innovative textile, decoration and design", 6B07088(9) - "IT and textile engineering", 7M07260 - "Technology and design of textile materials" and 8D07206 - "Technology and design of textile materials".

From 2006 to 2007 the department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, docent T.D. Kaldybaev; from 2008-2010 Candidate of Technical Sciences, docent S.B. Baizhanova; from 2014-2015. -PhD, N.E. Botabaev; from 2010 to 2022 the head of the department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, docent T.U. Togataev.

Since 2022, the head of the department PhD A.A. Yeshzhanov.

There are 1 candidate of sciences, 5 PhD doctors and 5 senior lecturers in the department.

There are Educational scientific and production complexes on the bases: LLP "Azala textile", LLP "Bal textile", LLP "Alem-BT", LLP "Nazar textile" and etc.

In 2016 the department successfully passed the international accreditation of educational programmes 5B073300, 6M073300 - "Technology and design of textile materials" in the accreditation agency ASIIN.

According to the results of rating among universities of Kazakhstan, educational programmes of the department occupy leading positions in the ratings of NCAOCO and NAAR. Teachers of the department in different years became the owners of the state grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan

"The best teacher of the university": In 2014, candidate of chemical sciences, docent Dzhanpaizova V.M., in 2015, candidate of technical sciences, docent Bayzhanova S.B., in 2016, candidate of technical sciences, docent Sagitova G.F.

The department has all the necessary conditions for conducting applied, research and development work, as well as for participation in innovation activities of the department and higher education. The laboratories are equipped with the latest modern equipment and laboratory devices. The research work of the department is devoted to researches in the field of production of textile materials, use and implementation of waste-free technology of textile materials. The results of the research work are published in domestic and foreign rating journals.

In 2018, the professor of the department, Doctor of Technical Sciences V.H. Sabirovwas awarded 41st place (1500 points) in the general rating of teachers (TOP-50) in the National Rating of Independent Accreditation and Assessment Rating Agencies (IAAR).

Academic mobility has become an integral feature of modern education. Every year the students of the department under the academic mobility programme study in Russia, Czech Republic, Turkiye and higher education institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

For effective implementation of the EP the department cooperates with leading scientific organisations and enterprises in the field of education and scientific research with Moscow Textile Institute named after A.N. Kosygin, Ivanovo Chemical Technological Institute, Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, Jizak Polytechnic Institute, Namangan Engineering Technological Institute, Almaty Technological University, M.H. Dulati State Universityin Taraz.

Our doctoral students Aripbaeva Akerke Erkosayevna in 2018, Bektursunova Ainur Kenesbekovna in 2022, Sabyrkhanova Saltanat Shalkharbaevna in 2023 successfully defended their doctoral dissertations at Almaty Technological University and received confirmation of PhD degree.

In South Kazakhstan University named after M.Auezov by the Order of the Chairman of the Committee for Quality Assurance in the sphere of education and science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan from December 12, 2023 №1020 opened a dissertation council in the direction of training ‘8D072 Production and processing industries’ on educational programmes (specialties): 8D007206 Technology and design of textile materials and 8D07230 Innovative technologies in light industry.

On December 19, 2024 the doctoral dissertation on educational programme "8D07206 Technology and design of textile materials" was defended by Kaldybaeva Gulbuston Yusupzhanovna. The defence was held in the dissertation hall of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University.

Research work of the Department of Technology and Design of Textile Materials

At present, the department has 1 candidate of technical sciences, 5 PhD, 3 master, senior lecturers and teachers.

A total of 70 scientific articles and papers have been published according to the results of research in 2024. Of them: in journals with impact factor (RINC) - 5.

In the journals approved by the Committee for control in the sphere of education and science RK-9.

The number of published articles in the proceedings of scientific conferences of various levels-57.

Including: at international conferences of RK - 38. at student conferences - 19. textbooks - 4, manuals - 3, patents for invention - 4. The results of scientific research are implemented in the educational process, as well as in production, which is confirmed by acts of implementation.

The department's research direction

Scientific work of the department "Technology and design of textile materials" was carried out on the following state budgetary themes:

The aim of the work is to develop criteria and methods of qualitative assessment of functional and operational properties of materials of textile and light industry on the basis of mathematical modelling of the mentioned properties and introduction of computer technologies.

Computerisation of methods of determination of relaxation-restoration and deformation-operational characteristics of materials of textile and light industry.

Funded research projects

In 2024 at the department "T&DTM" there are 3 projects on research and development.

1) PhD, senior lecturer Turakulov B.B. won the project AR15473325 "Study of the possibility of obtaining chromite pigments from technogenic waste for the textile industry" under the programme of grant financing of scientific research from 01.11.2022 to 31.12.2024.

The total amount of financing is 18,464,670 tenge.

2) The T&DTM department has 1 R&D project financed by: Erasmus under Reileap Uzbekistan- Reinforcement capacities of higher education institutions on leather and leather products in Kazakhstan 618930-EPP-1-2020-1-EL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP

The mission of the Kazakh REILEAP Leather Centre is to promote basic and applied research in the field of leather processing, leather goods and footwear materials and to provide training with EU experience to those working in the industry and related fields.

Total amount of funding: 914,000 (nine hundred and fourteen thousand) euros

3) AP09260240 "Development of the method of vortex interaction of flows with the possibility of regulating the temperature in the contact zone and creation of gas cleaning systems on its basis".

4) TEX4FUTURE: Textile Manufacturing for the Future in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan ERASMUS-101128738-EDU-2023-CBHE

The mission of TEX4FUTURE is the creation of innovative textile centers, completing a set of tasks whose result will be fully functional, operational, and sustainable centers.

Total funding amount: 102,000 (one hundred and two thousand) euros.

Two projects were sent to the competition for grant funding of research of young scientists under the project "Zhas galym" for 2025-2027. According to the results of the competition, the project of Doctor PhD, Senior Lecturer Sabyrkhanovaoya Saltanat Shalkharbaevna - AR22684790 "Development and optimisation of technology of dyeing textile and leather products with extracts of local plants" received grant funding

Chairman of the Board-Rector of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, Chairman of the Academic Council Ahmed-Zaki Darkhan Zhumakanovich this year in order to finance the research of young scientists in the educational institution for the first time held an intra-university competition "Zhas galym", where a young scientist grant holder Sabyrkhanova Saltanat Shalkharbaevna was solemnly awarded a certificate

Research work of students

At the department "Technology and design of textile materials" students annually participate in the republican subject Olympiads and scientific conferences. During the participation in the subject Olympiads and scientific conferences the students are awarded with diplomas of I, II, II degree, which shows that they have good professional skills and are able to carry out research work.

At the XІІІ Republican Subject Olympiad on 23-24 April 2020 Abdumutalipov Meirzhan Kuanyshovich was awarded the Diploma of II degree;
At the XІІІІ Republican Subject Olympiad on 08-09 April 2021 Zhienbaeva Balkhiya Maratovna was awarded the Diploma of III degree;
On 14-15 April 2022 at the XIV Republican Subject Olympiad Iztai Nurai Kanseitkyzy was awarded the Diploma of II degree.
On 23-24 May 2024 at the Republican Subject Olympiad Tazhibay Dilnaz Aituganovna was awarded with the Diploma of III degree.
On April 23–24, 2025, the XVII Republican Subject Olympiad was held among student teams of the educational program 070 – "Textiles: Clothing, Footwear and Leather products." Representing our university, the team included students from the following educational programs: 6B07231 – "Fashion Industry and Trade of Light Industry Products" – Auezkhan Zarina and Torebay Gulzhanat; and 6B07261 – "Innovative Textiles, Design and Décor" – Pernebayeva Madina. The team was awarded the 2nd-degree diploma.

At the republican competition for the best research work of students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan 2024 on the educational programme "Technology and design of textile materials" student of South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov Zholtay Aidana Azamatkyzy awarded with the Diploma of II degree on the topic "Study of the method of obtaining high-quality yarn with uniform linear density by installing "USTER QUANTIM" on the packaging machine". Scientific supervisor: Asanov Ermek.

At the republican competition for the best research work of students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan 2024 on the educational programme "Technology and design of textile materials" the student of South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov Amirali Gulzat Omirzakkyzy was awarded the Diploma of III degree on the theme "Study of technology to improve the quality of ring yarn by improving its structural structure". Scientific supervisor: Togataev Turabek.

At the 2025 national competition for the best student research in the natural sciences, technical sciences, social sciences, humanities, and economics, Aibek Asanovich, a student at M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, was awarded a first-degree diploma in the educational program “Technology and Design of Textile Materials.” Scientific supervisors: PhD, senior lecturer A. A. Yeshzhanov, Master's degree, lecturer G. K. Murzabayeva.

At the XXVI, XXVII Republican Student Scientific Conference our students were awarded diplomas of I, II, III degrees.

The dissertation is carried out at the department ‘Technology and design of textile materials’ of South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov.

Bektursunova Ainur Kenesbekovna defended her dissertation on December 15, 2022 on the theme "Development of technology for antibacterial treatment of hosiery and non-woven textile materials" with a degree in 6D073300 - "Technology and design of textile materials" at the dissertation Council of Almaty Technological University JSC.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan S. Nurbek awarded Togatayev Turabek, candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of our department, with a diploma of excellence in higher and postgraduate education.

Bektursunova Ainur Kenesbekovna by special invitation, within the framework of academic mobility, as well as participation in a seminar, conducting joint scientific research UR, Bukhara, Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology.

Eldiyar G. has completed "Leather Production and Quality Control" training at Department of Leather Engineering, EGE University, Bornova, Izmir /Turkey, from 13th to 17th June 2022. This training action has been realized in the framework of ERASMUS+ project REILEAP - Reinforcing capacities of HEIs for leather and leather products in Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan (618930-EPP-1-2020-1- EL-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP)

Bektursunova Ainur Kenesbekovna received a certificate for participation in the scientific and technical conference on modern education in Kazakhstan, Zertteu Conference, which was held on March 4, 2022.
