Malaysian researchers held a seminar on engineering education in the age of artificial intelligence
On October 28, 2026, the Faculty of Mechanics and Petroleum Engineeringhosted a research seminar titled “Integrating Engineering Education and Industry in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: New Technologies and Competencies for Future Professionals.”
The seminar was led by Associate Professors Zurina Mohd Hanapi, Novia IndriatyAdmodisastro, and Ng Keng Yap from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The university ranks 138th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The researchers were invited through a program run by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan to bring international researchers to the country.
The seminar focused on two questions. How can artificial intelligence and modern digital technologies be applied to industrial processes? What professional skills do future engineers need to use them? Participants explored these questions in the context of university–industry collaboration and preparing graduates to tackle real-world industrial challenges.
The seminar was organized for faculty members, doctoral and master’s students, and final-year undergraduates.
