CURATORIAL HOUR HELD ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 17 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

A curatorial hour titled “Sustainable Development and IT: How Digital Technologies Are Changing the World” was organized by senior lecturer E.T. Kulenova and lecturer B.E. Aidaulet from the Department of Information Systems and Modeling. The main purpose of the event was to explain the concept and directions of sustainable development to students, foster a culture of efficient resource use, conscious consumption and environmentally responsible behavior, as well as increase civic engagement and social responsibility.

 

During the session, students discussed the essence of sustainable development and connected it with the opportunities of the IT field. A round table discussion was held on the following topics:

- combating poverty and digital solutions in financial literacy;

- food security and agricultural technologies;

- ecology and smart systems for waste reduction;

- water conservation: IoT and smart meters;

- gender development;

- green economy and Green IT;

- quality education and AI: opportunities and risks.

 

Within these areas, students shared their views and explained, through concrete examples, the role of information technologies in achieving sustainable development. They also proposed potential IT project ideas aimed at addressing sustainable development challenges. The event contributed to enhancing students’ civic responsibility and encourages them to apply sustainable development principles in their daily lives and future professional careers.
