Bolashak Scholars Share Their Experience: Madina Turganbekova Concludes Her Research Internship in the USA
Madina Turganbekova, a senior lecturer at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University, has successfully completed her research internship at the prestigious University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), USA, under the "Bolashak" International Scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Following her return, she held a professional knowledge-sharing session with her colleagues.
New Approaches in Scientific Research: During the seminar, M. Turganbekova presented effective methods for preparing international-level scientific articles. She shared her expertise on systematizing sources using the Annotated Bibliography Matrix, identifying the Research Gap, and aligning manuscripts with the IMRAD standard. A research paper developed using these methodologies has been submitted to a peer-reviewed international journal and an international scientific conference in the USA.
Innovative Teaching Formats: The lecturer proposed implementing the following formats into the educational process, which are widely used in the US academic environment to increase student engagement:
• Debate Formats: Organizing discussion platforms to develop students' critical thinking skills;
• Poster Presentations (Mini-conference): Defending student projects in a mini-conference format to build public speaking skills;
• Active Learning Methods: Flipped Classroom and Peer Instruction technologies;
• Digital Gamification: Effective use of Kahoot, Quizlet, and ChatGPT (Generative AI) for academic purposes.
This knowledge-sharing event was a significant step toward enhancing the department's scientific and methodological potential and digitalizing the educational process in line with international standards.
